Student Sample Reflection
For my student sample I created an iBook about Thermodynamics in the human body. I spent about 3 hours on this project. To begin the process I had to find some chemistry law that was in work in the human body. I than had to research about the process of the 1st Law of Thermodynamics and find reliable sources. This took about an hour. This hour included typing notes. In the next hour I organized my notes into the order they would appear in the book. I typed my notes into sentences and bullet points. This took about 30 min. It took another 30 min for me to find images that were in creative commons. It was a pain to find the photos. I couldn't find a video that worked with one of my slides so I created my own video of swimming. For the last hour I put together my iBook. It would have taken less time since I had all the information but I ran into a few technology issues. I did not know how to use some widgets so I had to explore.
When looking at curriculum for the whole year I think that working this iBook in would not be to difficult but I would have to take out some of the 6 other technology products that are in the unit we created. I might make the topic a little less complex for students. I think students will have plenty of time because they will have 2 work sessions in order to get the iBook done.
I think that the process for this should be considered more then the final product. If students have shown the ability to research and find information the fact that maybe one or two of their widgets did not work well is no reason to make them get a bad grade. The point of the project was to get students to explore more in depth about gas laws. If students put in effort and have valid information the technology problems wont be a worry.
